Exhibition Old Gala House, Galashiels, Scotland
June 25th - July 31st 2011
Exhibition Introduction
The origin of my work is the Land.
My involvement began with the landscape and developed into an awareness of its structure influenced by geology, archeology and the uses which man has made of it past and present, particularly as seen from hills and aircraft.
The response to journeys made in Canada, the Scottish islands and more locally in the Borders, are the starting points for the exploration of marks, patterns, geological features and the overlooked, in collage and digital print.
I use papers, for the collages because they have textures that are similar to the surfaces I see and can give the sensation I wish to create. Using other media where necessary adds other dimensions.
Artist Books and assemblages are also part of my practice, used where they will develop an idea further.
